What is the GMAT?
The Graduate Management Admission Test® (GMAT®) measures academic potential for success in graduate management education programmes, particularly MBAs. It is used by leading business schools and universities worldwide as a selection tool to differentiate between candidates.
The test is sponsored by the Graduate Management Admission Council® (GMAC®) and is taken by over 200,000 candidates every year.
Enhanced security
Pearson VUE began delivering the GMAT in January 2006, following an extensive search by GMAC for a partner that could fulfill their rigorous requirements.
A key reason for Pearson VUE’s selection was its proven ability to enhance test security to prevent cheating. Bob Swieringa, Dean of Cornell University’s Graduate School of Management and former chair of GMAT, explained:
“The integrity of the GMAT is critical to business schools. It’s the best objective tool we have for predicting how well a student will perform. We want to know – and students want to know – that every applicant’s GMAT score truly reflects his or her ability to succeed.”
By partnering with Pearson VUE, candidate verification procedures have been upgraded to prevent imposters from taking exams. Each GMAT test taker must provide a fingerprint when they arrive for the test and every time they enter the testing room. That fingerprint, along with a digital photograph and signature, becomes a permanent part of a test taker’s record.
Better global access
“The best has just become better: better global access, better technology and better security.” David A. Wilson, President and CEO, GMAC
