In order to achieve the goal of sustainable development there is an established strategy to promote Sustainable Development supported by the UK Government based on the following principles:

Pearson shares these principles and this action plan demonstrates how Pearson VUE intends to put sustainability at the heart of its business with clear commitments to improving the impact it has on the environment and on the economy and society.
Pearson plc is striving towards the “Carbon Standard” in February 2010. This is run by the Carbon Trust and will include management of energy use and business travel.

Pearson VUE can make a difference in controlling the environment in which it works and has been engaged in setting up an environmental management system. Pearson VUE achieved ISO:14001 Environment Management System Accreditation in May 2009 for the Salford Quays head quarters. By taking these steps and a considerate approach to the environment, negative impacts will be reduced. |

Best Practice Carbon Reporting |

This is currently voluntary but it will become mandatory in 2012. In order to be in a position to provide accurate reporting Pearson will measure the effect of carbon emissions including the impact of business travel and commuting, review how its suppliers and contractors operate and will look for continuous improvement in these areas year on year. |
