The session considers how well testing organisations are coping with compliance four months after the new GDPR privacy law became effective on May 25, 2018. The ATP Guide to GDPR compliance, published in 2017, offered insights and strategies for complying with the GDPR requirements. Although that document has garnered significant interest, the goal of every testing organization is to reduce risk of noncompliance, test taker data compromised, and exposure to potential penalties. New legal developments, recent enforcement actions, and further guidelines issued by EU data protection authorities will be described with an eye toward relevance for testing organizations. Attendees will have an opportunity to raise questions and concerns for discussion, share effective approaches, and lessons learned thus far.

Security is a critical consideration for any credentialing organization but the confidential and sensitive nature of exam security makes it difficult to benchmark whether you are doing well. Is your program experiencing more incidents or different types of incidents than other credentialing programs your size? Are you currently using best practices to protect your program?

This session will present the results of the 2018 exam security survey, conducted by the ATP Security Committee. Results include responses from credentialing organizations and vendors across the globe and provide information regarding the practices being used by credentialing organizations to address security prevention, detection, enforcement, mitigation, and litigation. Providing data-driven insights, presenters will also discuss how vendors and credentialing bodies see the division of security responsibilities, as well as perceptions related to the effectiveness of various security activities. Finally, the presenters will make recommendations for how credentialing sponsors can address these gaps.

High-stakes assessment is going through another transformation. Enabling technologies such as the cloud and virtualization are now commonplace and continue to come down in cost. Schools and training centers are using high-fidelity performance experiences for learning and formative assessment. Employers are looking to hire people with demonstrated practical experience, and, even then, career advancement requires high performance. All around us it is evident that knowledge alone is not enough, yet many testing programs continue to focus on knowledge-based questions.

This session will present an overview of item response interaction types and give special attention to performance-based testing (PBT) methods such as simulations and virtualized software labs. There is no single best PBT option for all test programs; so, the presenters will share the challenges and discuss the considerations when incorporating performance-based elements into high-stakes testing programs.
