The Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists enters into partnership with Pearson VUE to transform its Fellowship examination program

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, Sept. 29, 2014 – The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) has entered into a multi-year partnership with computer-based testing leader Pearson VUE to transform its Fellowship examination program from print-based to computer-based. This will start with the delivery of the MCQ exam in late 2015, followed by the Essay-Style exam.

The RANZCP will take advantage of the industry-leading and bespoke ExamDeveloper software suite to manage the exam content and to improve the RANZCP’s content development process. The first phase of the project will be to replace the College’s legacy question bank system with the ExamDeveloper offering.

The candidate experience will be improved due to their access to a large network of highly secure and dedicated computer-based testing centres, and candidates can also register via a web-portal. The RANZCP will be utilising a new computer based exam delivery model to enable improved exam delivery experience for candidates along with the required security and appropriate measurement of its competency-based fellowship program for psychiatry training.

Dr. Murray Patton, RANZCP President, said: “The College is excited to announce this endeavour and wants to ensure that it is up to date with the latest international best practices when it comes to high stake examinations. The examination of candidates is a core element of the RANZCP, so investing in the future with Pearson VUE to provide a sophisticated testing system is as an essential investment.”

Bob Whelan, President and CEO of Pearson VUE, said: “I am delighted that through this new partnership with the RANZCP, psychiatrists across both countries can benefit from the opportunity to prove their skills through computer-based testing.”

The highly secure and proven testing solution has been used internationally by medical associations including the Australian Medical Council (AMC), the Royal College of General Practitioners UK (RCGP) and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
