Impact of COVID-19 on QLTS July MCT assessment

We are continuously reviewing the ever-evolving situation with the outbreak of COVID-19 (coronavirus). Currently, the July MCT is going ahead as planned. The health and safety of candidates and staff is paramount and we will closely monitor this situation and follow advice and guidelines released by the Government and Public Health England. We will keep candidates updated in the event that there are further developments.

Candidates are advised to consult the government website for the country in which they are scheduled to test for further information on COVID-19. For candidates sitting in the UK the website may be found here. Please also see the updated information on the Pearson VUE website here.

QLTS provides a route for lawyers from other recognised jurisdictions, and barristers from England and Wales to qualify as solicitors of England and Wales.

Kaplan

Kaplan QLTS is the sole authorised assessment provider for the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) of assessments under the QLTS. The QLTS assessment comprises 2 parts, a Multiple Choice Test (MCT) and an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). Candidates must pass the MCT before enrolling for the OSCE. The MCT is delivered online in conjunction with Pearson VUE.

Fit to Sit

Candidates should be aware that a “Fit to Sit” Policy is in operation for all assessments. Candidates are required to make a declaration at the beginning of all assessments that they are fit to sit the assessment. Candidates who are unwilling to make the declaration will be unable to take the assessment. A candidate who is unable to attend or take an assessment on medical grounds remains liable for the full assessment fee unless they are able to provide appropriate medical evidence. Medical evidence must be provided within 10 working days following the assessment date. Before sitting an assessment candidates will also be asked to agree to be bound by the Kaplan QLTS assessment rules and to agree to maintain confidentiality regarding the assessment.

Further details about the assessment, the assessment regulations and all Kaplan QLTS policies are available on the Kaplan QLTS website.

Booking

You can book a place on the MCT through Pearson Vue either online via this webpage or by telephone through the Pearson Customer Service Centre. Before you can book your place with Pearson VUE you need to have registered with Kaplan QLTS for the assessment.

Test Centre Environment

Candidates are encouraged to view the “What to expect in a Pearson VUE Centre” video.

Kaplan QLTS does not have exclusive occupancy of Pearson VUE test centres and candidates should be aware that the test room may be also used by candidates who are sitting other assessments of different durations.

We do not guarantee that the test environment will be completely silent. Ear plugs should be offered during the check-in process, and headphones are also available at most UK test centres. Every effort is made to provide a quiet environment for candidates, but test centres may be sited in city centres and we have no control over traffic or construction noise which may occur outside the test centre.
