Virginia Certified Horticulturist (VCH) by Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association (VNLA)

The Virginia Certified Horticulturist credential is recognized and accepted throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. You will be qualified to stamp and approve engineer, landscape architect or design plans requiring plants. This is now a requirement by many municipality planning boards.

The Virginia Nursery & Landscape Association (VNLA) is a state trade association for garden centers, nursery growers, landscape designers, installation and maintenance contractors, greenhouse and horticultural suppliers. Its mission is to enhance, promote and advocate for Virginia's nursery and landscape professionals.

Non-Disclosure Agreement

You will be required to affirm that you have read and accept the terms of the VNLA Non-Disclosure Agreement on screen prior before beginning your exam. The agreement reads: "I will not disclose or provide to anyone orally, electronically, or in any other format, information about the content of this examination. I understand that all documents and examination questions are, and shall remain, the exclusive property of VNLA." If you do not accept these terms, then you will not be allowed to take the exam.

Application Information

Prior to scheduling an examination appointment, you must have already:

  2. Although you may take the Virginia Certified Horticulturist exam without becoming a member of the VNLA, membership is encouraged. Consider applying for membership prior to scheduling your exam by visiting the VNLA website first at https://vnla.org/join-the-vnla/

Scheduling

VNLA will notify the candidate after the registration has been processed, which normally takes 1-2 days, of their eligibility status. When a candidate is approved to test, then s/he will be sent an authorization e-mail which will include your candidate ID. You will need to schedule your exam at least 72 hours in advance and, should you wish to cancel or reschedule, you must contact Pearson VUE no less than 72 hours in advance.
